What Kinds of Classes Do You Teach?
We teach technique, choreography, structured classes and workshop- All Level and All Styles. Below is a brief description of the main types of clases.
Discover Bellydance Choreography- Mondays from 7 pm to 8pm
Students will learn a complete bellydance routine (choreography) from start to finish. New bellydance choreography is taught every 5 weeks- levels vary from Basic Beginner to Advanced. It’s best to take the entire 5 week session to get the most out of this class.
Discover BellyDance Basics- Tuesdays from 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm
Welcome to the exotic world of bellydance, colorful hip scarves, beautiful silk veils and lots of fun! Picture yourself strutting your stuff to the hottest middle-eastern dance music with influences for Indian, Latin America and other cultures. No Experience Required.
Special Session and Workshops- Throughout the Year
We offer special workshops and master classes in addition to our Bascis and Choreography Clases. Workshops are selected to help students and experienced dancers alike broaden their dance training.
RAKS- Highly structured BellyDance Training over 32 Weeks. These classes are divided into 4 Eight Week Sessions.
How Much Does It Cost?
If you attend class as a drop-in student, the cost is $12.00 per class. If you purchase a class card or Purchase a full choreography session, class costs $10.00 per class.
Can I Just Observe?
No, we do not allow visitors or allow people to just watch. If you want to try out a class, you must pay the $12.00 drop -in rate.
Can I bring my daughter?
Children over the age of 12 can take classes with you. There is no child care available and you cannot watch your kids and successfully participate in class. Remember this is your time to escape the everyday and have fun. Mother an Daughter combinations are great, your child must be at least 12 to take a class and we do not offer a combo rate.
What's The Deal With Class Cards?
If you purchase a class card from the Herb Shop in Canton- you get 5 classes for $50.00. Class cards are non-refundable and non-transferable.
What's The Difference Between Technique and Choreography?
Technique teaches you basic moves and basic technique. We cover a few different moves every week and put them together at the end of class into a simple combination of movements. You can start these classes ANY Tuesday at the Herb Shop in Canton.
Choreography is an entire dance from start to finish. We learn a new dance every 5 weeks and these classes have a definite start and end date. The calendar tells you what the choreography is, when it starts, and what level it is. If you are interested in choreography, you should start the class at the beginning of the 5 week session or you will be behind.
What can I expect in class?
The classes are fun and laid- back. Some of our students take our beginner classes to get a good workout. Others take our classes to learn the basic movements of bellydance. Whether your goal is to workout, to learn to bellydance or to just do something different; we have a class for you.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, we offer private lessons. Call or send an email for more info.
How big are the classes?
We can have anywhere from 5 to 20 people in a regular class and more in a workshop.
Who is the instructor?
Jendayi teaches all classes unless otherwise noted.
What Do I Wear To Class?
Comfortable attire- stuff that you would wear to the gym- no jeans, no tennis shoes, no super-short shorts. Barefoot, dance shoes or socks.
Can I Perform?
Yes, we offer performance opportunities for committed students throughout the year.
Can I Join Your Troupe?
Yes, Our Student Troupe - Banat Jendayi is open to all regular committed students. Our Professional Troupe- Badalna- is by Invitation Only. We have open enrollment in January of each year for Banat Jendayi and Extend invitation for Badalna each January. If you would like info on Banat Jendayi- please email me.
Is This Good Exercise? Can I Get In Shape?
Yes, bellydance is good exercise, however taking one class a week for one hour is probably not enough exercise for you to lose weight. It's recommended that you exercise 5 days a week for at least 45 minutes and modify your eating habits to lose weight.
Do You Have To Have A Belly To BellyDance?
No, you can be any size, shape, age or height and still be a great dancer. The only thing you need is patience and a can-do attitude to be successful.
How Long Does It Take To Learn?
Bellydance is easy to learn and difficult to master. I know that sounds all "Zen" but it's true. Learning bellydance is like learning a foreign language for your body...and practice makes perfect.
